Image generators are tons of fun, and they can even have some educational uses ;-)....

Many of these sites are NOT APPROPRIATE for student use, so use these for your own use...

Ideas for educational uses:
  • create interest
  • thematic images
  • engaging images
  • vocabulary

To create:
  • conversation
  • interest
  • materials
  • awards
  • writing prompts
  • debate

To develop
  • vocabulary
  • media literacy
  • descriptive writing
  • art skills

and of course fun and laughter and engagement!

Some good sites

(remember ALMOST ALL NOT FOR STUDENT USE!):

My Favorite Image Generator Sites:

Wordle: http://www.wordle.net/create This site is a tool for making a "word cloud" from a bit of text or list of words. It can provide insight for analyzing text, or make interesting cloud to represent ideas, vocabulary or more. (safer site - usually okay for students)

Big Huge Labs: http://bighugelabs.com/ This site will give you a free educator account which removes advertising. It has some formats which are highly purposeful for in schools... especially trading cards, cubes, a captioning tool, and so much more! (this one COULD be used by students with supervision and a free education account...)

Glass Giant: Another good image generator site. http://www.glassgiant.com/make_pictures.php

Photofunia: http://photofunia.com/ This is a site almost entirely for using images of faces and placing them in interesting images... imagine famous people, student of the week, gifts for others, recognition etc.

Be Funky: http://www.befunky.com/ This site does lots of things, but I especially like the cartoon tool - cartoon some images and have students write dialog, lots of other tools...

Pimp The Face: http://www.pimptheface.com/ Bad name, fun site... make interesting faces which look like sketches, and more.

Text-Image Generators (Signs, Tatoos, and more):

ImageChef: http://imagechef.com This is one of my favorite sites for creating word-based signs etc...

Red Kid Generators: http://www.redkid.net/generator/sign.php

Sign Generator: http://www.signgenerator.org/thumbs.htm

Add Letters: http://www.addletters.com/image-list.php
